We offer some explanation because there are a thousand other websites, or maybe more like a million. Look at the others, for example those listed under our “external links” page, and you may see excellent content from serious research and patient-support organizations that we can thoroughly recommend. Even when compared with these, our alternative or more basic ways of expressing ideas may still be useful as an additional source of information, or maybe just by directing searchers to those good sites we have already done enough.

Surfing the Web, however, you will certainly come across advertising material of various degrees of mendacity, from embarrassing to criminal. It may be a university hospital trying to raise the wind to pay for its new proton beam machine (an advance in treatment for some patients, but look elsewhere on this website to understand the limitations of all radiation therapy). More often it is people promoting quack remedies, making wild claims that have no foundation in either basic science or medical experience. Again, look around this site for advice on how to pick ‘em and the way to approach alternative medicine in cancer.

And why the .be extension? Simply because we wanted to use a ‘cancerinfo’ name and it was the only one still available for worldwide use, which perhaps will tell you something about what most people who run cancer websites are really after, but not us.
